The impact and aftermath of Hurricane Florence has been quite a challenge for all. Regrettably, we must cancel the Seaside Shuffle 5K this year as there are just too many obstacles to overcome. Next year we will be back in full force and on the road for the race at Wrightsville Beach for what should be one of the faster 5K events in town.
Not only are we missing out on what would have been the 37th annual running of one of the longest recurring races in the Wilmington area, we are missing the signature event that fills the club’s purse to fund the WRRC Scholarship program.
Our club members are a tough tribe, so we are not recording a DNF on the scholarship program this year, as our collective commitment to carry on runs as strong as ever.
We are pleased to announce that the post-run party will go on! The WRRC Seaside Shuffle Fun-Raiser Party will replace the Seaside Shuffle 5K this year.
Hosted by one of our club’s true champions, Waterman’s Brewing Co., and supported by our Seaside Shuffle sponsors, this fun-run and fund-raising event will raise the roof and raise the cash needed for the scholarship awards. Each year the club provides to two deserving high-school seniors in our area with cash scholarships to help them on their academic way.
We’ll have lots of fun, friends, dazzling raffle prizes, along with plenty of great beer and fine food at one of our favorite venues. Waterman’s is donating a percentage of sales during the event directly into the fund. Perennial Seaside shuffle sponsor, New Potato Technologies, is setting the example for donations to the cause, and we will have the support from many other sponsors providing both cash and raffle prizes.
Be sure to come early, bring your best appetite and unquenchable thirst, and plenty of money to buy raffle tickets, bid in a silent auction, or throw some coin into the big jar of donations. Please join your Road Runner tribe for a wonderful afternoon and a great cause.
