Race Information

One of the Wilmington area's oldest races is back on and will be VIRTUAL for the 39^th running of this classic road race put on for runners by runners! In support of best practices for social distancing during these pandemic times, this year’s event is virtual, but with some interesting twists.

As always, the goal of this event is to raise funds for the Wilmington Roadrunners Scholarship Fund that awards college scholarships to local high school seniors from the local area (Pender, Brunswick and New Hanover County Schools).

Virtual 5K Seaside Shuffle Scholarship Fund Run

Date:  Friday, Novembe3, 2020 – Sunday, November 15, 2020

The first one hundred registered and paid runners for the Virtual Scholarship Run will receive a custom Seaside Shuffle gaiter for participating in the 2020 Seaside Shuffle!

Special race awards will be presented by the race committee to qualifying participants after all results submitted before the deadline have been reviewed.

To compete, any Scholarship Run participant must complete a minimum of a 5K distance (3.1 miles) sometime between 5 PM Friday and 5PM Sunday to qualify for awards and recognition. You can run on any route, any location, or even as part of another distance or race event you might be participating in. All results (proof of completion) are submitted electronically and this includes a photo of your tracking device, or app screen, or other suitable documentation showing your time and distance on a given date.

All results must be submitted by 6PM ET on Sunday November 15 to qualify for the official results.

Please note carefully, that the special awards and recognition are not necessarily just for the fastest times submitted. So, plan your run accordingly and think creatively!

Virtual Area School Cross-Country Meet

Date:  Friday, November 6, 2020 – Sunday, November 15, 2020

Local area high and middle school teams can participate in The Seaside Shuffle Virtual Area School Cross-Country Meet. To participate, an area high or middle school must first be supported by a generous sponsor who will donate $200 on behalf of that school to the Wilmington Roadrunners Scholarship Fund. All male and female students from the sponsored cross-country team may participate for free in the virtual track meet. This is a TEAM competition with separate male and female divisions.

Participating school teams may run their virtual 5K (3.1 miles) at any time from Friday, November 6, through Sunday, November 15. The team run may be part of a routine practice or a conducted as a special run as their team coaches deem acceptable.

Results to be submitted will consist of names and times to complete the 5K course as submitted by a coach of the team to the race committee. There is no limit on the number of participants for an area school team, but the committee will determine the fastest male and female teams based on the five fastest times submitted. There are separate divisions for high school and middle school teams. There is also a recognition award for the school team that submits results with the most participants.

The names of the 2020 winning school teams will be engraved onto the Seaside Shuffle Championship plaque to ensure long term bragging rights for those teams.

All results must be submitted by 6PM ET on Sunday November 15, 2020, to qualify for the official results.

OFFICIAL RULES:

Virtual 5K Seaside Shuffle Scholarship Fund Run

• 5K Scholarship run participants must complete a minimum of a 5K distance (3.1 miles).
• The run or walk must be completed anytime between 5 PM Friday, November 13, 2020, and 5PM Sunday, November 15, 2020.
• Participants can run on any route, any location, or even as part of another distance or race event you might be participating in.
• All results (proof of completion) are submitted electronically, proof of completion and time can be:
• • A photo of your tracking device
  • A snapshot of a tracking app screen
  • Other reasonable documentation showing your time and distance on a given date.
• All results must be submitted by 6PM ET on Sunday November 15 to qualify for the official results and special awards.
• ·The rules do not prohibit the following:
• • Running or walking any course that you choose – road, trail, beach, swamp land or sea.
  • Combining your timed effort as part of another event, even a longer event such as a 10K all the way to a marathon.
  • Running with a group, running in costume, walking on you hands, or running backwards.
  • Traveling to a far-off destination to complete your 2020 Seaside Shuffle.
• The rules do require the following:
• • You complete your run within the allotted period.
  • You use some reasonable means to know accurately the distance and time taken to complete your Seaside Shuffle.
  • You start your timing device at the start of your run/walk and do not stop the timing device until you have completed your run/walk.
  • You accurately and fairly submit your results to be considered for the official tally and special awards.
  • You have fun and feel good that you are helping the club keep its tradition of providing scholarships to local college-bound seniors.

Online registration opens now.  As with any race for runners put on by runners, this is a cheap event with the following options for registration:

Standard registration:  

As the race event is virtual, there will be no registration or packet pick up. All communications will be via email and though the club’s website and Facebook page.

Finisher Awards: 

While the first 100 registered runners shall receive the custom Seaside Shuffle gaiter, the committee will issue both traditional and special awards recognition.

This year, the committee will issue Special Recognition awards to the most inspiring and creative runners who complete the 2020 Seaside Shuffle.

Traditional award recognition will be made to the first, second, and third place in the men's and women's open Amateur Championship, Masters Division, and Grand Masters, as well as first place in boys and girls student amateur division (must be a high school senior or younger). An age group award will be made for the first-place finisher in the 15 and under, 16-19 and then 20-29, 30-29, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, and 70+ year age groups.
